A hand thrown and decorated usefully-sized stoneware bowl for admiring or Weetabix.
The design is based on a 1925 Bauhaus tea glass by Joseph Albers (see it in MOMA's Collection here), itself drawing heavily on Christopher Dresser’s 1880’s designs for British silversmiths Hukin & Heath, often cited as the precursors of Modernism.
Ryan wanted to make a 1970’s-style pottery interpretation, redolent of the Japanese influence, twisted and churned through misunderstandings and cultural shift thats takes us from aestheticism to Bauhaus to mid 70’s suburban banality.
