Prairie Oysters

Prairie Oysters are an artist collective and spud-rock band from Scotland including Abby Loveland, Graeme Roger, Amy Marletta and Kevin Reid. As part of 'Romantic Detachment' (2004) at MoMA PS1, they took an extended trip through the Deep South wearing odd lycra.

Every morning they followed a keep fit regime designed by a hardened prisoner. During this time they developed a pair of gas-powered cannons with which they fired food-filled condoms at wooden cutouts depicting English hate-figures such as Margaret Thatcher and the Duke of Cumberland, ‘Butcher of Culloden’. The group connected the history of Scottish oppression in Britain with the experience of the more marginalised parts (specifically the south) of the USA.
