There are three internships available in three specific areas of work, all based at our new HQ at Lawson Park. There is some crossover between the areas and a mix of activity is possible. All interns will be required to help in the day to day running of the house and gardens.

All internships are offered as 6 week residential placements on a 9am - 5pm working day basis, 5 days per week. Basic food and living expenses will be covered by Grizedale Arts. (All alcohol, biscuit, chocolate and travel expenses are the responsibility of the intern).

The Internships will each be paid an award.

The dates are flexible from early spring onwards. The 6 week duration can be split into 2 or 3 periods in discussion with Grizedale staff and based on periods of more intense activity.

The principle areas of work are:

Land and gardens

Management of the land and gardens in conjunction with the director and artist/garden designer Karen Guthrie, as well as working with resident artists undertaking land related projects. Spring and early summer would be the most valuable time. An interest in gardening, food production and cooking as well as an interest in art/creative activity would be an advantage, an enjoyment of hard work and the outdoors essential.

Example of jobs would include weeding, planting, soil development, cutting, clearing, water management, morning chores etc.

To catalogue and upload to the website the extensive collection of domestic design within the Lawson Park building - in conjunction with the Director. www.lawsonpark/collection offers an example of the ambition for the site. There are a further 200 objects to document, research and upload. There would be potential to develop the interface and develop new ideas for how the collection works both online and in the building. An interest in design, photography, online access and archives/exhibitions would be an advantage. A dislike of the outdoors might help with keeping to it.

Examples of jobs would include photographing objects, researching designers and manufactures, editing copy, writing, uploading images and text, curating, display and arrangement of objects.

To design and fit out/improve interior elements of the Lawson Park building in conjunction with the Grizedale staff. Priority tasks include the building of a community kitchen, installation of a stove and design of surrounding furniture. Good level of design and building skills essential.

Examples of jobs would include shelving, painting and decorating, craft, built in furniture, design work, ideas generation, problem solving
