Dear Howard,
Further to our phone conversation today I'm forwarding you more
details for our 'collaborative
lie'.
I have enclosed a 'flow diagram'
which we all made relatively early on during our residency here
at Grizedale. The diagram was an attempt to pull together all the
threads we'd begun to research. I have also included four pages
from my personal sketch book and some images. One diagram is from
the start of the project and then there are 3 covering different
aspects of our developing work - David
Shuttleworth (the rally driver), Estate
Agents, and the Grotto
event (that I mentioned is happening on Sunday).
Our idea is to each collaborate with one of the area's leading 'liars'
to expand on the anecdotes and ideas that have stimulated our projects
here. These lies would eventually be threaded together by us, perhaps
into a performance or an on-line text. Whilst researching several
'local personalities' we have been told so many interlinked facts
and stories that we felt only a long 'lie' might do justice to the
information we have gathered.
The information enclosed is one attempt to note down many of the
different links we have encountered - I would like to commission
you to work with me to develop this into a lie. Once you have had
a chance to look over the material please do get back in touch and
we can hopefully meet up to discuss the lie further in January.
Very briefly I should explain that we are all digital artists (Nina
Pope, Karen Guthrie, Anna Best and Simon Poulter) - Karen and
I usually work together but for this project we put a proposal together
with Adam (the new director
at Grizedale) to work collaboratively as a foursome.
We all met originally on a week long digital arts workshop at Dartington
Hall. Our work is pretty diverse but often involves working with
a specific audience who become involved in the production of a piece
utilizing new media. If you would like to know more about our other
work I'd be very happy to bring some examples along when we meet
in January - all the artists are keen to visit your pub! Yours sincerely,
Nina |
