Born 1951, United Kingdom. Lives & Works in United Kingdom.
Rob is an artist perhaps best known for his ceramics and large-scale public art. As part of a residency in 2000 he hosted ‘Gathered’, an outdoor formal dinner for twelve invited guests. Rob designed all aspects of the dinner, including the dinner service that bore images of magnified pollen.
Rob's early work explored the tensions between artifice and imitation and the paradoxes of representing nature through ironic and humorous sculptures covered in familiar pictographic icons.
He has worked extensively with botanical scientists at Kew and molecular biologists at the Gulbenkian Science Institute in Portugal, exploring the creative potential of microscopic plant material.
