At Grizedale

Joanne and Tom are a collaborative partnership based in Glasgow. Their work looks at recent art history and popular culture and investigates the accepted (or expected) outcomes of contemporary art practice. During their residency in 2001 they put forward a proposal to construct an ambitious land art structure at Grizedale, which had its roots in early minimalist land art projects. Unfortunately Grizedale were unable to implement their proposal at the time due to cost implications and planning permission, but keep the project in mind for the future.

Joanne and Tom returned in 2002 to be members on a panel discussion ‘Open Air, Open Discussion, Open Mike’, for Live in Your Forest. They joined Mark Wallinger, Matthew Collings, Richard Harris and Adam Sutherland and debated the role of artist as interpreter of the landscape, and the past present and future of Grizedale, all in the middle of a June rainstorm.
